This race of small stocky humanoids live deep below the surface, subsisting on the minerals and metals of the earth. Though a rare sight, those who know of them often refer to them as the ancestors of dwarves, something the similarly built race takes to as well as a human would being called a monkey. While both races share several common traits, namely their affinity for the earth, the Hrakton are a different breed altogether. Unlike dwarves, they grow no hair whatsoever, even the females are completely bald. Their skin ranges from deep earthy browns to metallic coppers, though some swear they’ve seen golden, or even mithril colored Hraktons in deep mines where such metal is relatively common. A folktale tells of an adamantine Hrakton, said to come not from the earth, but from the sky instead, and that its arrival heralds a new age for their brethren to leave their homes and seek out a new one. These hightales all derive from the Hraktons primary diet of the resources deep in the earth, and for the same reason are much hated by the dwarves who make their own living from metals. For all this hate, Hraktons are not a malicious race and have an almost animal-like kindness to them, though keeping them from eating particularly choice metals can quickly change their disposition. To the dwarves relief, there is one precious substance that the Hrakton do not eat, gems. For whatever reason, Hrakton abhor jewels as humans would garbage, or a barbarian, lettuce.
